Administrative History

Records Management (1982-1990) at Brigham Young University was responsible for the transfer, storage, and destruction of university records. The unit was formed in 1982 when the records management program was transferred from the Harold B. Lee Library to the university's Media Services division. In 1985 the program was again transferred to Information Systems Services, before in 1990 it was returned to the administration of the library.

The Records Center, as a part of the Records Management program, retrieved and stored the records that were solicited by Records Management. In 1982, after officially establishing a Records Management Program, the jurisdiction of the program was transferred from the Library to Media Services. R.C. Wood was appointed Manager of Records Management (1982-1985). In 1985 Records Management was transferred from Media Services to the Information Systems Services Division. The Records Managers were R. C. Wood (1985-1988) and Maralyn Harmston (1988-1990).

Between 1982-1990 Records Management was run by a Records Management Manager. In 1982-1985 Records Management functioned under the supervision of the Executive Director for Media Services and from 1985-1990 it functioned under the supervision of the Executive Director of Information Systems Services.
