Administrative History

The Education Building (1892- ) originally housed Brigham Young Academy. It now houses the Provo City Library.

The Academy Building was completed in 1892 to house Brigham Young Academy. Housing one thousand students, it was one of the largest schools in the west. It was renamed the Education Building in 1922. It housed the Brigham Young High School until the school closed in 1968. It then stood vacant for nearly thirty years. It was slated for demolition, but a library bond passed in 1997 and it was renovated to house the Provo City Library.
