Administrative History

The M.L. Bean Museum (established 1978) houses the life sciences collections of Brigham Young University.

The Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum was opened to the public in 1978. The museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and maintains membership in the Natural Science Collections Alliance. Research collections of vascular and non vascular plants, invertebrate and vertebrate animals are maintained and made available to research scientists and educators. Public exhibits and educational programs are offered.

Contains office records from the Monte L. Bean Museum including files relating to the dedication, accounting records, annual progress reports, organizational charts, and correspondence. There are also ten volumes of research diaries of Robert G. Bee in his studies of ornithology mostly in the state of Utah from the years 1924-1962.

Scope and Contents

Collection consists of a series of one hundred and sixty-seven color slides of photographs taken of Brigham Young University (BYU) campus, U.S. Geneva Steel, and the Utah Valley landscape. The slides were created by the Monte L. Bean Life Science Museum and were presumably used for training purposes. Included in the slides relating to BYU campus are views of the campus, buildings, faculty, and campus centers. Slides are undated.
