Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. San Juan Stake (Utah)

 Organization

Biography

The San Juan Stake (1883-1974) was an ecclesiastical unit of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Juan County and part of Grand County in southern Utah and, for a time, included parts of Colorado and New Mexico.

The San Juan Stake was scouted out in 1855 by church leaders looking for opportunities to migrate to the area. On September 23, 1883 the stake was organized. The stake participated in correspondence with church leaders and has a history of pioneer life. The stake was renamed Monticello Utah Stake in 1974.
