Administrative History

The Department of Social Work (1981-1986) was part of the College of Family, Home, and Social Science at Brigham Young University. The department taught courses on the practice of social work, and assisted with employment placement.

The department was established in 1981 in a split of the earlier Department of Sociology and Social Work. The new department focused on training social work professionals, and provided employment placement for bachelor degree graduates. It also offered graduate degrees in social work, and helped other programs where social work is necessary. In 1986 the department was reorganized as the School of Social Work.

The department chair was W. Eugene Gibbons (1981-1986).
