The Department of Education was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.
The Department of Education was formed in 1970 in a merger of the Department of Teacher Education and the Graduate Department of Education of the College of Education. The department prepared teachers in the areas of elementary, secondary, and special education. It was administered by Curtis Van Alfen as department chair, under the direction of the college dean. In 1972 the unit was again split to form the departments of Educational Administration, Educational Psychology, Elementary Education, and Secondary Education and Foundations.
