Administrative History
The Department of Youth Leadership (1958-1981) was an academic unit at Brigham Young University.
Formerly the Department of Scouting Education, the Department of Youth Leadership was organized in 1958 within the College of Recreation, Physical and Health Education, and Athletics. The department provided instruction related to the scouting program to prepare students for possible professional careers in youth leadership for the Boy Scouts of America and similar organizations. Courses offered included Boy Scout Leadership, Scouting in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and National Camp School. In 1960, the Department was placed within the College of Physical Education. Chairmen include Royal B. Stone (1958-1960) and Thane Packer (1960-1981).
