Administrative History

Public Affairs (1980-1994) was an administrative and services unit at Brigham Young University. It was responsible for providing information services about campus, as well as planning and supporting campus events.

Public Affairs (also called Public Relations) was organized in 1980, replacing the earlier Information Services/Internal Affairs unit. Its responsibilities expanded over time. Initially it was responsible for campus tours and external communications. By 1984 it was administering Hosting Services, Graphic Communications, University Publications, and Performance Scheduling. In 1994 the unit was discontinued as responsibilities were redistributed within the University Relations Division.

Directors of Public Affairs included George H. Bowie (1980-1992), and Mark B. Woodruff (1992-1994).
