Administrative History

The Brigham Young Academy Commercial School (1902-1903) was a four-year business course with an emphasis on office skills such as typing and book keeping.

The Brigham Young Academy Commercial School was designed to train students with skills necessary for competitive business training. The school operated as a four year course and taught bookkeeping, arithmetic, shorthand, typewriting, and telegraphy. The school was directed by Joseph B. Keeler and operated under the direction of the president of the university. The school was established in 1902 in a renaming of the earlier Commercial College, and was retained when the academy itself became Brigham Young University in 1903.
