Biography

The American Viola Society was founded in 1971 and is an organization for violists and musicians.

The American Viola Society is headquartered in Dallas, Texas and is an organization that encourages excellence in performance, pedagogy, research, composition, and lutherie among musicians by fostering communication between violists of all skill-levels and backgrounds. It was founded in 1971 by Myron Rosenblum. The Society currently sponsors the Primrose International Viola Competition, which was founded by David Dalton in 1979, in honor of the violist William Primrose. They also offer many other servies to members and violists worldwide, including other competitions, the Journal of the American Viola Society, and other publications and resources.
