Administrative History

The Language Training Mission (1963-1978) was an educational and missionary unit in Provo, Utah. It replaced the earlier Missionary Language Institute, and in 1978 was replaced by the Missionary Training Center.

The Language Training Mission operated as a training center for missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before they would leave on their respective mission areas. The mission trained missionaries in proselytizing and language skills, as well as leadership training and basic instructor training.

In 1978 the LTM was merged with other units, including the Salt Lake City Church Mission Home and Preparatory Training School, and was renamed the Missionary Training Center.

Wikipedia, via WWW, April 22, 2011: Missionary Training Center (LTM built after 1968, in 1968 missionaries were moved to the Amanda Knight hall and Knight-Mangum Hall, LTM operated as a training center for missionaries, initially intended as a temporary stopping point for missionaries who were having visa difficulties, the LTM added additional types of instruction to their curriculum including leadership training and basic instructor training; after several years this educational opportunity was extended not only to missionaries serving foreign missions but to missionaries serving in English-speaking areas, four dormitories, a gymnasium, and a language training building were built near BYU campus for this purpose, in 1978 the LTM was renamed the Missionary Training Center)
