Biography
The Philadelphia Branch, organized by Joseph Smith in 1839, was the largest East Coast congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the 1840s.
The Philadelphia branch was organized December 23, 1839 by Joseph Smith on his 34th birthday. The branch was the largest congregation of the church on the east coast in the 1840s. On May 29, 1843 Brigham Young wrote to the members urging them to migrate to Nauvoo. The first chapel in the branch wasn't dedicated until 1938.
