Biography

The Argentina Missionary Training Center (1985-2019) was a training center for native Spanish speaking missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints initially, then expanded operations to include the teaching of native English speakers assigned to certain Spanish speaking missions.

The Argentina Missionary Training Center (MTC) trained missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ from Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia, Panama, and Spain initially, then broadened the missionaries accepted to include native English speaking missionaries assigned to Uruguay and Paraguay. The MTC was originally opened in a chapel in Buenos Aires in October 1985, but the first mission president L. Sid Shreeve and his wife Afton K. Shreeve didn’t arrive until January 8th 1986 and their first missionaries arrived in February of the same year. A separate MTC building was dedicated on the Buenos Aires temple grounds on March 5th, 1994 by Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin. The MTC was closed in July 2019 with future use of the building decided with local church leaders.
