Administrative History
The Unified Church School System (1953-1970) was an educational unit in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Unified Church School System was established in 1953, and brought together the various educational institutions and programs in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The system included primary and secondary educational institutions operated by the Church, as well as the seminaries and institutes of religion. The system was initially administered by a Chancellor of Church Education, and operated under the direction of the Board of Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1965 the system was reorganized into two units: Brigham Young University (consisting only of the university itself), and the Church Schools.
The Chancellor of Church Education was Ernest L. Wilkinson (1953-1965), followed by Harvey L. Taylor as Administrator.
