Biography

The Provo 1st Ward is a congregational unit of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Provo, Utah.

George Albert Smith established the Provo 1st Ward in August of 1852 under the direction of Brigham Young. Prior to 1852, Provo had been one congregation. At the time of the 1st Ward's creation, George Albert Smith divided Provo into four wards. The 1st Ward met in the basement of the old Provo tabernacle until 1890, when the first meetinghouse was built and dedicated. The current chapel used by the 1st Ward on 100 E. 200 South was finished and used in 1930 and dedicated in 1939 by Heber J. Grant.
