Biography

The First National Bank of Provo (1882-1894) was a bank organized by A.O. Smoot and other local Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah investors.

The First National Bank of Provo was organized by businessman A.O. Smoot, and other local Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah investors, to meet the economic growth of the 1880s. William H. Dusenberry was the cashier. Opening April 3, 1882, it was located in the county recorder’s office of Provo. In 1883, it was moved to a new building at the corner of University Avenue and Center Street. In 1893, a nationwide depression forced the bank to close, and it was eventually purchased in 1894 by the Provo Commercial and Savings Bank.
