Administrative history

The Utah Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was formed in 1851, splitting from the earlier Salt Lake Stake. Early stake presidents included John S. Higbee (1851), Isaac Higbee (1851-1852), George A. Smith (1852-1854), James C. Snow (1855-1858), Dominicus Carter (acting) (1858-1860), William Miller (1860-1868), Abraham O. Smoot (1868-1895), Edward Partridge (1895-1901), David John (1901-1908), Joseph B. Keeler (1908-1919), and Thomas N. Taylor (1919-1939)

Scope and Contents

Includes journals, biographical sketches, correspondence, articles, lesson manuals, published and unpublished manuscripts, photographs, and ephemera. The bulk of the material was created by Joseph B. Keeler's descendants, who used his papers as they compiled their published family history, "Build Thee More Stately" (1989). The collection focuses on family history, religion, education, and professional organizations.
