Administrative History

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections (2000- ) is a special collections library and manuscripts/archival repository.

The L. Tom Perry Special Collections was named in May 2000, and was previously known as the Department of Special Collections; Manuscripts. It is located in the Harold B. Lee Library on the campus of Brigham Young University. Aline and L. Sam Skaggs, through their ALSAM Foundation, made a generous financial donation to the new library and requested that the Special Collections be named after L. Tom Perry, an apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The department is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making available rare books, historical manuscripts, and university records. Department chairs have included Scott Duvall (1999-2002), P. Bradford Westwood (2002-2009), Russ Taylor (2009-2014), J. Gordon Daines III (2014-2020), Thomas R. Wells, (2020-2021), and Dainan Skeem (2021- ).

Scope and Contents

Contains photographs of the Helen Foster Snow exhibit and presentation held in Special Collections, photographs and guest book used in the Helen Foster Snow exhibit, programs, fliers, posters, and other material for or related to the Helen Foster Snow exhibit. Dated 1998 to 2001. Also contains email printouts, notes, a compact disc, and fliers related to the BYU and the Great War exhibit, dated 2017 to 2018.

Scope and Contents

Contains a poster announcing a reception hosted by the L. Tom Perry Special Collections in conjunction with the Mormon History Association in May 2004. Part of the reception was the production "Discoveries: Two Centuries of Poems by Mormon Women."
