They illustrate his religious conversions from membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to a follower of the Morrisite movement, and finally to a leader in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (now the Community of Christ). Kendall County, Illinois Court writs

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of handwritten and printed writs. They declare that David Hyrum Smith, a leader in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is legally insane and should be sent to an institution. Many of the items were signed by Joseph Smith, III, the founder of that faith. Also included are newspaper clippings and a certificate verifying David Smith's death.

Jehovah Smith letter

Scope and Contents

This collection is a photocopy and a typescript of a missive written to the "Editor of the Carthage Republican" on 5 April 1867. The letter affirms the report that the Reorganized Mormon Church was "bound (by secret oaths) to rebuild the temple in less than five years."
