Icarian Community legal instruments
Handwritten "bill of exceptions" and a printed legal notice. The bill is dated Oct. 13, 1854 and regards the case of Warren vs. the Icarian Community. The notice, which is entitled "advertisement," is dated Dec. 25, 1852 and appeared in the Nauvoo Tribune published by the Icarian Autographic Establishment.
Icarian Community records
Official records of the Icarian Community in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1850 and 1851. They were produced under the authority of Etienne Cabet the leader of the community. They include a "constitution" of the Icarians on how members may enter and leave the community, an autobiographical statement by Cabet that defends the Icarians and the reason for establishing them, seven addresses to the Icarians by Cabet, and "Reviews" of Icarian activities in 1850 and 1851."
